AGRICULTURAL BY-PRODUCTS
A SUSTAINABLE SOURCE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BIOBASED COMPOUNDS
OleoInnov is a young innovative start-up created in 2019 after six years of joint research at INRAE, Aix-Marseille University, Terres Inovia and Terres Univia. Our mission is to develop biotechnological processes to valorize agricultural by-products by producing innovative biobased compounds to meet industrial needs in many sectors.
ABOUT US
ABOUT US
We use the potential of fungal enzymes to produce high-added value compounds from agricultural co-products such as oilseed cake.
HISTORY
HISTORY
These projects yielded two innovative processes:
- Synthesis of a biocatalyst to replace chemicals that are harmful to the environment and to health.
- Synthesis of biobased compounds for pharmaceutical and cosmetic use.
Thus in 2019, Frédéric Fine (Terres Inovia), Elise Odinot, Anne Lomascolo (BBF Laboratory) and Jean Claude Sigoillot (BBF Laboratory) were at the initiative of the creation of Oléoinnov with the support of INRAE, Terres Inovia, Terres Univia and the Impulse Inter-University Incubator.
MISSION
NOTRE MISSION
OleoInnov is a biotechnology company, dedicated to the development of sustainable processes and bio-sourced compounds.
The processes and products developed by OleoInnov aim to:
- Participate actively in implementing solutions to replace processes harmful to the environment and to the health of users and move to greener solutions that can be integrated in programs for sustainable development (COP21, program of sustainable development to horizon 2030).
- Use the high innovative potential of fungi to produce biobased compounds that can potentially be utilized in high value-added areas, such as health applications, but which are currently absent from markets because they are difficult to produce by classical chemical synthesis.

BIOGRAPHY
Frédéric Fine has an MSc in biotechnology (Polytech Marseille, graduated in 2001) and a PhD in Food Sciences, specialty Process Engineering (2004). In 2018 he obtained an Executive MBA (HEC, Paris).
In 2011 he joined Terres Inovia (the Technical Centre for Oilseed Crops, Grain Legumes and Industrial Hemp) as Executive Director of the Seed Transformation and Valorization Department, and today heads the Valorization Department. Between 2012 and 2018, he coordinated the joint research projects conducted by INRA-Aix Marseille University, Terres Inovia and Terres Univia, which resulted in OléoInnov’s creation.
Concomitantly to his position at Terres Inovia, Frédéric Fine is now the Deputy CEO and co-founder of OléoInnov. He oversees company management and strategy, jointly with the Scientific and Strategic Committee.

BIOGRAPHY
Anne Lomascolo has an MSc in Industrial Microbiology (SupAgro Montpellier, graduated in 1993), and a PhD in Food Sciences, specialty Industrial Microbiology (Sup Agro Montpellier and University of Montpellier 2, graduated in December 1996).
Since 1997 she has been Associate Professor of Aix-Marseille University and teaches process and biochemical engineering applied to microbiology and biotechnology in the Department of Biological Engineering at Polytech Marseille.
Anne Lomascolo does all her research work in the Laboratory of Biodiversity and Biotechnology of Fungi (BBF, UMR1163 of INRA and Aix-Marseille University, Luminy, Marseille) dedicated to the study of filamentous fungi and/or their enzymes as a source of innovations for the valorization of biomass for chemistry and energy.
Between 2012 and 2018, she was the scientific leader of the research projects that led to the creation of the Company.
Anne Lomascolo’s scientific work has been recognized with more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 5 book chapters, 73 papers at conferences and 4 international patents.
Anne Lomascolo is a co-founder of OléoInnov and she acts as scientific advisor, and sits on the Company’s Scientific and Strategic Committee.

BIOGRAPHY
Jean-Claude Sigoillot† had an MSc in Chemistry (Ecole Centrale de Marseille, graduated in 1974) and a PhD of Science from Aix Marseille University (1987).
After experience in the paper industry, he helped create the Department of Biological Engineering at Polytech Marseille and set up the course in Process and Biochemical Engineering. He went on to head the Department for eight years. At the same time, he was engaged in developing the Laboratory of Biodiversity and Biotechnology of Fungi (BBF, UMR1163 of INRA and Aix-Marseille University, Luminy, Marseille), which he also managed from 2009 to 2015.
His work resulted in more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals and the filing of several patents.
Professor emeritus since the end of 2015, he participated in the regional initiative Provence Industry’Nov, an industrial innovation movement for the implementation of bioindustries for the Fos-Etang de Berre area, jointly with NOVACHIM, the chemistry and plastics CRITT. He was also part of the managing committee of the regional biomass scheme (SRB).
NEWS

This year, our work and our determination have been rewarded through this competition since our startup OléoInnov is laureate of the 23rd Bpifrance i-Lab competition, in the Chemistry and Environment category.

Oleoinnov: biotechnologies to better promote agricultural co-products
Based in Marseille, this startup promotes agricultural co-products from which it extracts bio-based molecules with high added value for manufacturers. In addition to providing custom services for farmers concerned with recovering their waste, it develops its own products, including an enzyme that offers a greener alternative for the discoloration of denim.

The MESRI validates our CIR authorization request thus making our R&D services eligible for the Research Tax Credit (CIR).

In order to promote the innovations resulting from the work carried out within INRAE, OléoInnov was interviewed to talk about its activity and its prospects.
